I've embarked on a unique and very personal, emotional and creative journey. My attempt to confront and cope with my own severe chronic neurological and spinal conditions resulted in my spine and collar art -- highly personal sculptures representing a unique artistic interpretation of a healthy spine, its beauty and unlimited possibilities. I'm also a registered nurse with advanced degrees. Through Project HOPE I'm replicating this process with other patients suffering from chronic illnesses, to aid in their personal struggles toward wellness. The following pieces seek to express not only reclaiming control of how the world sees people like me with injuries, but empowering those of us to reclaim control of our lives and thus transform the conversation into a positive. Even the materials I use experience a rebirth. In my sculptures, much of the materials have been discarded, used and donated, ultimately being recycled into the creation of my pieces.
